Special Issue on Digital Twins

Driven by Industry 4.0/5.0, the concept of “digital twins” has sparked a new industrial simulation boom. Digital twins are virtual representations of a physical object or process. They can be used to analyse, simulate, verify, test, adjust and optimise real products or processes and increase their added value. Virtual reality (VR), which delivers users better vision and senses through smart hardware like glasses and helmets, is contributing to improved visual effects and interactive operations in the digital world. The combination of digital twins and virtual reality is now widely used in guidance instructions for operation and maintenance, early warning of error prevention, and information tips to improve the efficiency and accuracy of operators. However, there is still room for improvement in the technical level of smart hardware. And R&D can help to improve rational hardware configuration and reduce costs. The focus in this field is now on enhancing user experience and enriching products.

This special issue will feature papers which examine the latest applications of virtual reality in digital twins, and the improvement strategy of intelligent hardware in the process of realising the interaction between virtual and reality.

Topics covered:

· Smart home based on VR in digital twins

· VR intelligent wearables in the digital twin environment

· Intelligent vehicle hardware based on digital twins

· Application of industrial intelligent hardware in digital twins

· The independent operation mode of VR wearable devices

· Implementation of scene mining in the VR of digital twins

· Intelligent hardware in the cloud platform of Internet of Things in industries based on digital twins

· Intelligent medical and its hardware equipment based on digital twins

· Design of workshop management and control systems driven by digital twins and VR

· Industrial safety control systems and hardware for human-computer interaction based on digital twins

· Low-latency techniques for user interactions with digital twins in collaborative virtual environments

· Bio-sensor integration and fusion for seamless interaction with digital twins
